100 litre Coral Zoo - Part 4 - Week 11 update.
100 litre Coral Zoo - Part 4 - Week 11 update.
What’s in there at the moment?
So far just Star polyps, Zoas, and mushrooms, like these.
They are steadily getting bigger
It’s hard to believe that we only started our 100L Coral Zoo just 11 weeks ago! From an empty tank on 5th Feb 2022, it has really come on well in 11 weeks, despite not having much time spent on it really! They are growing really well.

Progress so far
Here's a few updated pics of our Coral Zoo project. We now have 190+ types of Zoas and Palys, 80+ types of Mushrooms, and 8 types of Star polyps in there. Let’s take a look at some of the corals in there.
I’ve linked some of the pictures
For some of these pictures I’ve added links, so if you click the pictures it takes you to their product listing and you can find out more about them, and maybe even buy some too!"
Our most recent insertions
These are some of the newest arrivals into the 100L Coral Zoo.
You’ll want it so badly
This beauty isn’t for sale yet, we will be farming these in the Coral Zoo though, and they will be available soon. Some truly stunning ZOA-331 Stardust GRANDIS PALY, 💎El Presidente Personale Collezione grade💎.
Look at these colour poppers
Some absolutely jaw dropping mushrooms in the tank so far including these 4 new ones I added this week:
Plus this threesome!
The hottest of them all!
By far the hottest things in the Coral zoo are these Sizzling hot mushrooms!
I need to do some pillaging!
I definitely need to pillage the Star polyps section in our Coral bays, because we have 20+ colours of Star polyps in stock, and I only have 8 types! Thinking about it I haven’t got any of the Clove polyps, Anthelias, or Knopias, in there either, and there’s at least 20 types of Indo Zoas in stock that I might not have all of either! At best guess I have around 290 types of soft coral in there at the moment, but, with some careful pillaging and rummaging around I reckon we might have as many as 40 types more I can add.
Two more new Star polyps added this week.
Invert it!
I also added a couple of inverts too this week.
I’ll be getting my hands on these soon
Here are some of the Clove polyps in store at the moment. I’ll definitely need to add some of each of these!
And these Knopia too!
Indo Zoas
We have at least 20 types of Indo Zoas in stock and many of these aren’t in my tank yet. I’ll add some more of these to the Coral Zoo this month.
Do I like leathers?
I’m not including the leather corals for now (probably), but, I’m still undecided on this one. We have a dozen or so types in at the moment, and I might add 1 or 2 later just for structure, but, with it being a relatively small space it would soon get crowded out if I put all 6 types of Toadstools we get for instance.
Here are 3 of our most unusual Toadstools:
SR029 ★ULTRA GRADE★ Lime green toadstool
WYSIWYG 359 Super rare Sarcophyton two tone.
WYSIWYG 361 Sarcophyton trocheliophorum green. WYSIWYG farmed in Vietnam
Some whip based drama might be fun
I think I will add some Sea Whips at some point, because they’re a great way of adding height, without using up much floorspace. I haven’t got a lot of height to play with as the tank only has a water depth of around 10”, so I may need to stick to some of the smaller or slower growing ones.
Fantastic when the lights are off
Dendros will definitely be making an appearance at some point soon. I absolutely love the huge range of colours you can get, and particularly like the high contrast pink and white, and, purple and white ones that add such a fantastic splash of contrasting colours. For the same reason a Chilli coral is likely to go in too. Despite the commonly held view that Dendros are impossible, whilst it is true there are some that are tricky, some are not really any more difficult than keeping Toadstools and Mushrooms if you’ve got the right setup. There are certainly many Dendros that are far easier than other widely kept coral species such as Sun Corals etc.
Coming next
Here are some updated pics of where we’re at so far. I haven’t had as much time to spend on it as I’d like the last few weeks, as with the web side of the business being insanely busy, plus new puppy, time has been in short supply. But, I have got a bit of time scheduled to do a few more bits on it this week.
Some of the other Zoas in stock that I haven’t added to my tank yet, plus I’m going to have to add some Florida rics too.
Should I be naughty?
Although this is supposed to be a soft coral tank really, we have some really nice Acans and Blastos at the moment, and it’s so tempting to sneak a few in! Pretty special huh?
And maybe a few Dwarf Seahorses too!
In other news - Puppy page coming soon!
I’m also planning to get a puppy page up online soon, as I’ve had so many people request updates on how he is getting on. He now has a name which officially is “Tik Tok” (he picked it himself), although usually I call him “Little man” or “My boy”. He is by far the best present I have ever had! Thanks Neil!
Why are we making a Coral Zoo? Find out more here!
In total the tank is just over 100 litres, so it goes to show that you can easily get to 400 or 500 different corals in even a small reef tank! Read more about our Coral Zoo project, and why we're doing it here:
Cut off for new orders on LPS corals is 11:59pm tonight!
