September’s promotions! - Weds 13th September

VIP Club update.

It's that time again for monthly promotions! Congratulations for the following 3 people:

Mohammed was promoted today from ⭐La Generale⭐ to 🐪Padre De Camellos🐪, one of only 15 people to join this very exclusive club!

Mohammed gained his promotion due to his unwavering dedication to snapping up WYSIWYG corals within minutes of me listing them, time after time, no matter what time of the day or night it happens to be! It takes true dedication to snatch the best ones that fast! Whether it’s during the day, knocking on midnight, or 6am in the morning, he’s almost always the first to grab some of the new ones as they go up, now that takes some serious dedication to the hobby!

Steven O, has just now been promoted from El Capitan to ⭐La Generale⭐, in fact Steven might even see this before he spots the email 🙂

Steven gained his promotion for his dedication to ordering almost every week. Sometimes it’s a lot of things, sometimes just the odd thing, but, that enthusiasm for always getting something new for his reef, definitely deserves some recognition.

Sarah / Denise, were promoted today to El Capitan, gaining them free delivery on all their orders in 2023, and their other El Capitan benefits too.

Sarah / Denise got their promotion for simply picking all my favourite things. Out of the many hundreds or corals and inverts available online, pretty much everything she/they (still not sure if it’s 1 person or two tbh) have picked have all been in my personal top 5% of the coolest things to get, and that appreciation of all the same kind of things I like just couldn’t go unnoticed. I do like it when someone likes all the same things as me lol!

Congratulations everyone, your support is very much appreciated.

James

New WYSIWYG anemones - Tuesday - 5th September

New Coral packs page - Wednesday 16th August

We’ve had quite a few requests to create a page with all our coral packs on it. With 64 coral packs to choose from having them all on one page makes it easier to choose which ones to have. Well, I actually finally got round to it!

New Corals of the world Torch triple pack - Wednesday 16th August

The latest addition to our Corals of the world range of coral packs. This Torch triple pack is likely to be very popular, considering how many have been bought already and it’s only been online for around 2 hours!

15 colours of Torch corals, including new Summer 2023 colours! - Friday 10th August

Our biggest range of colours on Torch corals since Spring 2021. Including two new colours for Summer 2023!

New lower prices on 7 colours too (probably not for long though), and much reduced prices on 2 heads, 3 heads, and 4 head pieces, with most 3 head pieces now costing less than the previous price for just 2 heads!

Some stunning colours including the new Tigers and Cotton Candys, plus, it’s nice to see Indo 24k Gold back on the list too.

Stunning DISCO901 Gold edged electric blue Disco mushrooms - Sunday 6th August

Our newest Corals of the world pack! - Friday 4th August

The latest Blogs - Thursday 3rd August

A few more Red Dragon Disco mushrooms released from the farm due to high demand - Weds 2nd August

Whilst very few people are probably aware of this, high end Discoma mushrooms that we farm in store are a huge part of our business. I have over 70 different colours of Discoma mushrooms currently on farm, and we actually take twice as much money per year on Discoma mushrooms than we take on fish! In fact if you include the other 50 or so types of mushrooms we sell then mushrooms account for almost as much sales as all the fish, inverts and dry goods added together!

This may seem surprising, but probably 75%+ of all our customers have bought mushrooms from us at some point. There are quite a lot of you that buy 1 or 2 mushrooms per month, and then on top of that we have a small number of very keen mushroom collectors that place a large order that is either al, or nearly all mushrooms. Orders with £500 to £2,000 of mushrooms just on one order are not that unusual at all. This may surprise a lot of you, but, with very high end mushrooms typically being £99 to £199 per head, and some mushrooms being as much as £799 per head it doesn’t take many heads on one order before it starts adding up hard and fast.

Now that is probably a huge surprise to most hobbyists, but, bear in mind that almost every coral shop has LPS corals running into hundreds of pounds per coral, so the market for corals at that price range is actually quite large. Also while high end LPS can sometimes be tricky to keep, or lost easily if things go wrong, mushrooms are much more durable, they can also be just as colourful, and in some cases more vibrant than the most colourful LPS corals, they soon start popping out baby ones which many collectors then sell and then use that money to buy different mushrooms, so it can be self funding very easily. When you look at it like that, then perhaps it’s not so surprising after all!

Not as many people buy high end mushrooms as buy high end LPS corals, that is true, however, there are literally hundreds of shops and private sellers across the country selling £100+ LPS corals, but, no one, absolutely no one else in the UK has anywhere even remotely close to 120+ types of mushrooms to choose from. There’s barely anyone with even 20+ types to choose from, and even then they mostly just have the very common ones. Also it’s not easy for anyone to compete with that, it’s not like they can pop down to their local wholesaler and just pick up 100+ types of mushrooms, it has taken many hours per week, every week, for over a year to build up the collection that I have, and it requires quite a lot of capital too. At a rough guess we normally have between £30,000 and £60,000 of mushrooms here at any one time. That might sound like a vast amount , but actually with 120+ types in stock and many of those rare ones being £99 plus per head, £10,00 doesn’t go as far as you’d think! Our entire mushroom collection mostly fits in about a dozen 12” baskets!

With demand for our two latest releases from the farm being so high I’ve released (reluctantly lol) a few more Red Dragon and Elven Princess for sale. There will also be 20 or so WYSIWYG mushrooms going online later on today. These should start going online around 6am and all be online by 11am today. They may well get snapped up fast, so if you see one you like checkout fast!

The 10th one of our new Corals of the word packs goes live - Tues 1st August

So far all of the other 9 Corals of the world packs have been regular repeatable items which 90%+ of the time we have 1-4 weeks worth of in stock at any given time, and our nearest wholesaler that we go to nearly every week, and sometimes twice a week, also usually has vast stocks of too.

This 10th pack of Branching hammers is the first one of the packs that will only be available from time to time. We only had 6 of these packs available when it went online at 6pm Tuesday. Once these 6 packs have gone, it’ll be replaced by the next limited numbers pack of something else (depending on what I get this week to replace it, probably named Zoas). Once they have sold through, that’ll be replaced by the next limited one and, then it’ll rotate back round (that’s the plan anyway).

So if this Branching hammer pack sells out before you can order one, it will be back again, but, probably not until Oct/Nov and again probably only in limited quantities. So if you want this pack this month, you’ll need to be quick!

EDIT 3:45am Wednesday: Now only 4 packs remaining, well done John & Giedruis for grabbing your packs early!

More new corals! - Sat 29th July

Lots and lots of new corals in this week, including vast amounts of new WYSIWYG corals. As well as all the new WYSIWYG corals though we’ve also had restocks of some familiar favourites, some brand new corals being released from our coral farm for the first time (although only in very limited numbers), as well as some new regular lines on SPS too. These are just some of the 50+ new coral types in stock this week.

New SPS

The Acropora Purple are back available as a regular line again, which is good news as this is one of our most popular SPS frags. The new Milli in Shocking pink is a real showstopper, but, only available in very limited numbers. The absolute hands down champion this week though has to be the stunning Cadbury’s purple Acro with lime green tips. The photo really doesn’t do this justice at all, I’ll see if I can get a better pic of this truly stunning SPS. This is sadly only available in very limited numbers, so if you do want one grab it fast, as it might only be available for a few days/weeks and once it’s sold out I don’t know if we’ll be able to get any more.

More Clove polyps

Restocks this week again of our two most popular Clove polyps, the outright best selling Clove polyp by far outselling all our other colours put together is of course Jedi Army. We also had restocks of our 2nd best selling Clove polyps Fire eaters. We also have one new addition this week with this unusual Short green stripe Clove polyp. I have put some of these on farm, but, I haven’t got Clove polyp farming nailed down quite yet. They do grow, but, only relatively slowly, and nowhere near the growth rates I get on Zoas and Palys, or, Discoma mushrooms.

I was going to put a few farming tips below, but, actually I think I’ll do this as a blog post, because then I can go into a bit more detail, as it is something that might be useful to a few people, and probably of interest to far more people. I’ll try to remember to do this in the next few days, if I forget somebody remind me please. :)

More new Zoas

Restocks of Candy apple reds, in both the bright version and the standard version, always a hot seller when we can get them, and more Victoria’s Nightmare too. The new kid on the block are the Stargate Zoas (again sorry about the picture, I have real trouble getting good photos of the Zoas. However, I am starting work on along overdue photography tank this week, so hopefully that will improve the quality of the photos going forward). Lots of other new Zoas in this week, plus Coral gardens of them etc, but, mostly they are WYSIWYG listings.

I have been increasing the amount of Zoas we farm quite a lot over the last few week’s and at a guess we probably have close to 100 types of Zoas and Palys on farm now. This is a long way short still of the 220 types I had on farm in May last year, but, unfortunately my entire farming stock was stolen whilst I was in hospital. Sadly some people will stoop to any level it seems. . .

More new Disco mushrooms fresh from the farm.

I know have around 80 types of Discoma mushrooms on farm, as well as 4 colours of Furry mushrooms on farm too. I did have a dozen or so colours of Yuma mushrooms on farm and 20 or so colours of Tonga mushrooms too, but, I’ve been slowly reducing the amount of Yumas and Tonga mushrooms on farm because mushroom farming space is quite limited at the moment and the Discoma mushrooms are far more productive and valuable.

This week I’ve actually put all my remaining farming stock of Tonga mushrooms and Yumas on sale as either regular lines or as WYSIWYG’s to free up more space for Discoma mushrooms (see new coral farm info below).

So three new first releases from the farm this week, all in limited numbers at this stage.

DISCO739 Elven Princess - I particularly like this mushroom, it has an unusually pale colour, and subtle blue spots. This one is growing on me more and more each time I look at it.

DISCO761 Fairyland - One for collectors really, it’s not especially colourful compared to most other mushrooms at this price range, but, what makes it very special is the spots. Whilst spots aren’t massively rare on mushrooms, on this one they are pink, and that is something that is exceptionally rare. While this may not have much mass appeal, it’s unique pink spots may attract the attention of serious mushroom collectors.

DISCO980 Red Dragon - With this one it’s not hard to see the appeal at all, it is truly spectacular. The electric red spots and bright turquoise slightly raised stripes are a jaw dropping combination.

50+ types of corals in this week

I won’t go through all the new types here, but, they are scattered throughout the website. Most of the new ones are in the WYSIWYG section or will be going online later today. A lot of them are in limited numbers, because I’ve been busy hunting out rarities, and some of them I only have 1 or 2 for sale of each. If you after something special then the first place to look is the WYSIWYG section (button below).

Coral farm info, and other news.

The space problem will be solved when the new coral farm is in place, I’ve pretty much got the design mostly nailed down now, but, it involves moving the shop about quite a lot. So currently it’s on standby pending two things.

First finally catching up on the order backlog which has been the unkillable monster this year. In late Jan we were on track for getting it under control by the end of Feb, and then air freight issues, and several major health problems for me scuppered it a bit. By the 25th April after weeks of hobbling round after dislocating my knee I could finally walk without having to sometimes rely on a walking stick.

Then just 3 days later I was assaulted resulting in my right arm being broken into 5 pieces (now permanently partly disabled), and fractures to my left arm, left wrist, left index finger, and two toes my right foot. With the only limb unaffected being my left leg which up until 3 days earlier I had been using a walking stick to help support it, that really messed things up. I’ve worked really long hours these last 3 weeks though (typically 110-130 hours per week) and we are now chewing through it.

Secondly, I want the ongoing battle over the lease resolved. After 2 and a half years of legal disputes, and more than 10 court hearings to date, it looks as though we are (hopefully) near final resolution. I have today drawn the line on attempting to engage the landlady in reaching amicable agreement (she has consistently refused to discuss things amicably), and have given her a deadline of 7 days from today as her final chance. After many months of prepping legal work in the background I finally have pretty much everything in place to go on the offensive for my 3 separate legal challenges. I was hoping to avoid having to do this, but, it’s almost certainly the only way it’ll be resolved now. The good news is that with so much paperwork already prepped my legal challenges should now be quick and decisive.

So (fingers crossed), hopefully we should be able to begin construction here within the next few weeks (finally).

Yet more new WYSIWYG’s - Fri 28th July

Initially I was planning on just doing the occasional big listing of WYSIWYG items and then inbetween just have a handful of things on there. However it has proven so popular, and unexpectedly WYSIWYG orders are far faster to pack than standard orders, that I’ve decide to try and keep 100-200 corals on there at all times. I might also expand it out with some WYSIWYG inverts, and Seashell packs (when/if I ever get free time to do anything). Find out more by going to the blog post below.

It’s WYSIWYG weekend at Salty Revolution this weekend! - Sat 22nd / Sun 23rd July

We usually only do about 4 WYSIWYG events a year and this one is not just the biggest one ever, it’s more than double the size of the previous record!

We have got tons of new corals (and some inverts) coming in next week for customer orders and I need as much space as possible (fish begin arriving the week after). So I’m clearing 300-400 corakls and some nems this weekend at mostly 25%-75% off. The best pieces will go fast. The event will end once I’ve cleared enough space (once about 2/3 are sold at a guess).

These are my pick of our TOP 25 corals in stock. Some are picked because of their rarity, some are picked because of the fantastic low price of what you get, but, all of them are picked for the spectacular show they put on. Truly vibrant colours, far above and beyond your average corals.

Best of all you don’t have to have a big budget to get yourself some of these corals. Some of them do have big price tickets at up to £199, but, even at those prices that is often way less than you can normally get them, but, most of them are in the much more affordable £40 to £99 price bracket, and about a quarter of them are £40 or less, with prices starting at just £5, now that’s something that can put a smile on anyone’s face!

In fact if you choose carefully you can pick out 4-5 of these beauties for just £60, enough to hit minimum order value, and of course now there is FREE shipping on all orders, so you don’t have to use up money paying for postage which you could be using to get more corals, and just imagine how much more colourful your reef will be with some* of these beauties adding splashes of vibrant colour to your aquarium.

*you don’t have to get just some, you can of course buy all of them, that is an option. To make this option easier remember here at Salty Revolution we have a strict “don’t tell their other half what they spent” policy. If anyone asks you “won them all in a competition because: you know so much about reefkeeping / went out of your way to help other people (delete as applicable” wink wink.
