Dwarf cuttlefish (Sepia bandensis).
APPROVAL REQUIRED FOR PURCHASE OF THIS SPECIES
This species has specific requirements and is not suitable for a typical reef aquarium. To ensure that this animal is correctly cared for before purchasing this species you must have approval from James at Salty Revolution that you will be able to house and care for this species. Any orders for this species that are placed without prior approval will be cancelled, and a cancellation fee may be applied.

Dwarf cuttlefish (Sepia bandensis).
Cuttlefish are best kept in a species tank. Some soft corals may be kept with them, along with snails and starfish. They require excellent water quality, heavy feeding (sometimes they may only eat live food), all pump intakes must be guarded with fine grills or sponges.

SIZE and Sepia bandensis care.
Tiny pea sized juveniles are best kept in breeding traps or acclimatisation boxes inside a main aquarium. Within a few months they will reach around 1” long and then require moving to full size quarters of 50 litres per Dwarf cuttlefish. If overcrowded they may fight and become injured or killed. At 6 months old they will reach full size of 4”, but, are still content with 50 litres per cuttlefish. They can live for around 12 months. In old age they reach a phase called “Senescence”. Once your cuttlefish reaches this stage of their life then to avoid suffering we recommend considering euthanasia.

COMPATIBILITY
A group of juveniles can be kept together if reared from the same batch of eggs. From pea size to 1” allow 1-10 litres per cuttlefish. At 1” upgrade them to a larger tank of 50 litres or more per cuttlefish. They can be kept with most soft corals, snails, and starfish. They will eat shrimps, crabs, shellfish, crustaceans, and fish. they are efficient hunters and can tackle prey larger than themselves. Anemones and LPS corals may eat cuttlefish.
