OUR NEW FRAG SIZES

We have now introduced our new Mini and Micro frag sizes on some corals. We have done this so that we can bring the rare and more expensive corals within the price range of more people. Almost all of these corals are farmed by my instore, and are only available in limited numbers, so by making them available in smaller sizes this also means more frags are available, and more people get to enjoy keeping and collecting the rarer colours. It also allows you to easily plant several areas of your reef with several patches of the same coral, this creates a far more natural look.

As these types of coral are often quite fast growing it doesn’t take long for a Micro frag or Mini frag to grow to the size of a standard frag. If well looked after it will take around 3-8 weeks for a Micro frag to grow to Mini frag size, and then 3-8 weeks for a Mini frag to grow to a standard frag size.

STANDARD, MINI, AND MICRO, FRAG SIZES

Standard frag size - Our standard frags are roughly 1p size and mounted on a 23mm x 23mm (1” x 1” approx) square of solid limestone.

Mini frag size - To create a Mini frag we cut a standard frag in half in each direction, making 4 pieces.

Micro frag size - To create a Micro frag we cut a standard frag like a noughts and crosses board into 9 pieces.

Multibuy savings - On some of the colours there are now multibuy discounts for buying 2 or more frags of the same type.

STAR POLYP ADVICE

We get quite a variety of different colours of Star polyps. They are a great addition to a reef aquarium being easy to keep and fast growing. These easy to keep corals are especially ideal for those new to coral keeping.

All star polyps frags are mounted on 23mm square frag tiles. The frag will typically cover 1/4 to half the tile when closed, and mostly cover the tile when open. When you receive the Star polyps intially place in very high flow, until the polyps fully open. This usually only takes an hour or two, but, sometimes they may take a day or two to adjust to your lighting. Once fully open move to the area you would like them to be. Whilst Star polyps can get by in slower flow, generally the more flow they get the better the polyp extension and the faster they grow.

Flow rate: medium to very high.

WATER QUALITY

All corals require reasonable water quality. Temperature and salinity should be kept as stable as possible, and low levels of nitrates and phosphates.

LIGHTING

When you receive your coral ensure you do not place it in a spot that is too brightly lit. If a coral is in a spot that is a little low on light it will generally manage ok. If the spot is too bright it can bleach the coral. If in doubt as to the right spot too little light is unlikely to do much harm, compared to too much light.

FLOW

The amount of flow a coral needs depends on the type of coral. See PLACEMENT above, or, contact us if you are unsure.

FEEDING

SIZE

All frags vary in size in appearance and so may be a different size, colour, or, shape, compared to the photo, which is shown only as a rough guide.

COMPATIBILITY

Some fish may peck at or eat corals. Some inverts may also do so. Remove any fish or inverts that are harassing the coral.
