Macroalgae can be grown in; the main tank, in a refugium, or, in a sump. Macroalgae will absorb nitrates and phosphates from the aquarium water. The only maintenance required is to tear the clump into two every now and again. Allow the macroalgae to grow until nitrates hit 2ppm. Once that has happened then remove half the macroalgae every time it doubles in size. If nitrates fall below 2ppm then reduce the amount of macroalgae.
