WARNING DANGER!

Leopard morays are large powerful predators. At full size this fish may exceed 8ft (2.4m). They may eat or attack other tankmates, and can also be a danger to their keepers. If you are injured by a moray eel seek immediate medical attention. Wounds inflicted by morays are prone to infection, which if left untreated may lead to amputation. They have two sets of large powerful jaws. This is a fish that needs to be treated with repect. Juveniles are fine in tanks with other medium to large fish, in tanks of 200 litres or more. Adults require tanks in the 1,000 to 2,000 litre range.

May grow to 8 feet (2.4m) or more.

COMPATIBILITY

Safe with all corals. May eat other fish, and may attack their keeper sometimes causing permanent body damage.

All fish with a large potential size may need special care, and may require a tank set up in a particular way to suit their specific needs. Large fish need a lot of space, even as juveniles they may need large tanks to get enough exercise to develop properly. Large fish may view smaller tankmates as food. Large fish may sometimes damage equipment and bite through power cables. Also bear in mind that large fish can eat a lot of food. It’s not unusual for 1 large fish to eat several packs of frozen food a day, which can be expensive. Large fish can be difficult to rehome, so do not purchase them unless you already have the facilities to house them at a larger size.
