Species only tank required. Not compatible with any other species. Requires an aquarium which is half land, and half tropical saltwater, with a sugar fine sand substrate. Cannot be kept in a standard reef aquarium. Must be kept in groups.
An absolutely delightful little creature with a body not much bigger than a cherry, and bright blue in colour. They can corkscrew themselves into the sand to hide, and when emerging doing a backwards and forwards somersault. They sift the sand rolling it into little footballs which they stack up around them. So very very cute. A 50 litre tank is suitable for 5-10 Blue soldier crabs. Use sugar fine sand (such as Salty Revolution Live sand). Cover the base of the aquarium in a 1” deep layer of sand. Cover this in 1” of saltwater at 34ppt (1.026sg). Then add more sand to create a beach area out of the water. The beach area should be 1/4 to 3/4 of the aquarium area, and be at least 1” higher than the water level. Feed on small frozen foods, may also take flake etc. The tank must be kept in a warm room, or, some kind of heating added to keep the water warm 20c to 30c preferably. They cannot climb glass, so no lid is necessary. Regular water changes are recommended.
