Electric flame scallop (Ctenoides scaber).
Electric flame scallop (Ctenoides scaber).
Electric flame scallop. This is the less common seen species of Flame scallop with the white tentacles rather than the more commonly seen red ones. A difficult species for most hobbyists, requiring specific conditions. It is a filter feeder and so requires a food rich system. A stable salinity and slow acclamation is also necessary. Many fish such as wrasses, angelfish, filefish, triggering, and butterflyfish, may nip at the tentacles, or even eat the scallop. Some inverts such as Sexy shrimp, Anemone crabs, and Trapezia crabs may try to move into the Scallop to make it their home, which the Scallop normally doesn't appreciate too much. A stunning addition to a nano aquarium for the more experienced hobbyist used to caring for filter feeding species.
