Stomach and flesh can contain a deadly purple dye. Sea Hare eggs are also purple and highly toxic. The animal also has concealed spines under the skin, and if the animal is squeezed these pop out of holes in the skin and poke the aggressor, again with the same purple dye toxin. Any fish, corals, inverts, etc that ingest purple Sea Hare flesh, eggs, dye, or get stung by the spines, almost always die. this can easily wipe an system. they are also highly toxic to people, potentially very seriously so. Whilst they are generally peaceful, and are excellent grazers, care must be taken with them. The toxin is particularly concentrated in tanks under 500 litres


SIZE

Usually around 3”, may grow up to 6” or so.

COMPATIBILITY

Reef safe. Is capable of extruding toxic intestines, and/or venomous spines. It is not a major threat, but, handle with reasonable care, and wash your hands after handling them.
