Basket wrasse (Halichoeres hortulanus).

One of the larger Halichoeres species. Juveniles go through many colour changes on their way to their glorious adult colours. Due to their adult size being larger than most Halichoeres species, they are better suited to larger fish only systems when adult.

SIZE

We usually import them as 1” to 3” juveniles, they may eventually reach 10” or so. Fairly fast growing.

COMPATABILITY

Reef safe with all corals, large specimens may eat small and medium sized inverts, and may bully smaller wrasses. As with many types of wrasse it may bury in the sand and hide when moved to a new aquarium. Most wrasses are out and about within a day or two, but, some take 3 weeks or more to appear. Don’t worry they will be coming out and feeding at night. We recommend feeding a minimum of twice per day on suitable frozen food. Some small reef fish can jump from an open topped aquarium, we recommend using a tight fitting lid with no gaps.
