Live sponges can help reduce particles in the water, improving water clarity. They can also filter ammonia and nitrates directly from the water, leading to a much more stable low nutrient system. They do best if kept in the dark so are best kept in a dark sump, cryptic refugium, or in heavy shade such as deep within caves in the tank. They do best in areas of high water flow. Acclimate slowly, and keep submerged. If kept in good conditions a small piece will quickly colonise more areas. Available in various colours.
