Mantis!

MISC. MANTIS (ODONTODACTYLUS SP.). WARNING SEE DESCRIPTION.

WARNING!
This is fast and aggressive predator that requires it’s own aquarium. It is capable of inflicting nasty wounds on the unwary aquarist. Tales of broken fingers, slashed hands, and smashing glass tanks made of 6mm or thinner glass, are not uncommon. Only suitable for aquarists with previous experience of keeping dangerous animals, such as venomous snakes etc.

Misc. mantis (Odontodactylus sp.).

Although similar looking to shrimps it is in fact a species of Stomatopod. It is a highly efficient, fast, and aggressive predator requiring it’s own species aquarium.

SIZE
Upto 8”.

COMPATIBILITY
Requires it’s own aquarium, preferably with 10mm or thicker glass. A secure lid to prevent access by other people and pets is recommended. May inflict serious damage on the aquarist.

Snails

Nassarius snails (nassarius sp.).

Nassarius snails are scavenging snails. You should have a minimum of 1 snail per 10 litres of tank volume, and half of those snails should be scavenging snails such as babylonia and nassarius snails. Nassarius snails are completely reef safe, and do an excellent job of cleaning up uneaten food. This saves you time, and helps maintain stable water quality. Also check out our cuc packages.

Bristleworm eating snail (Oliva sp.).

These are scavengers, in a similar way to Nassarius snails. However, they also hunt and eat Bristleworms. Whilst many Bristleworms are harmless, some are predatory on corals, inverts, and even fish. Bristleworms can also injure aquarists with their spines, which whilst usually harmless, can be painful with large specimens, and in rare cases cause very nasty infected wounds. Oliva snails are a great way of keeping your reef aquarium Bristleworm free. Add 1 Oliva snail per 100 litres if using them as a preventative measure. If you have quite a few Bristleworms then add at least 1 Oliva snail per 50 litres. Once the Oliva snails have eliminated the Bristleworms, they will happily scavenge normal aquarium food and detritus. Highly recommended. Tubeworms are also a type of Polychaete worm, but, Oliva snails do not attack Tubeworms. We have tested this by keeping Tubeworms and Oliva snails in together in store.

SIZE
Up to 2”.

COMPATIBILITY
They are reef safe, and safe with other inverts. As with all small creatures avoid mixing with large fish that may try to eat them.
