Panda butterflyfish (Chaetodon adiergastos).

One of the more peaceful Butterflyfish species. Will quite happily live in pairs or shoals in tanks of 100 litres or more. Safe with most other small and medium sized reef fishes, and most soft corals too. May be bullied by aggressive fish such as Tangs, and may peck at LPS and very small inverts. But, generally pretty well behaved in a soft coral reef tank, or, fish only system. A very attractive and easy to keep shoaling fish.

SIZE

Shipped in a variety of sizes. Usually reaches 4” or so in captivity. Some specimens may reach as much as 8” in the wild.

COMPATIBILITY

Best kept in pairs or groups. Avoid housing with aggressive fish such as Tangs. Safe with most soft corals. Generally safe with larger inverts. May nip at LPS and SPS corals. They don’t eat coral in the wild, but, may nip at coral in captivity if not being fed often enough, or, enough quantity of food. Will eat small inverts.
